Peter B asked: I purchased a home that has a security system installed. It has motion sensors in some rooms, and door sensors on every exterior door. I know it is functional as I see it respond to the various sensors, but do not know the code to arm it. The previous owner’s disconnected the service to the company that calls the police and forgot the code. I just want to use it as a passive system that sounds the alarm when breached, but cannot arm it without the code. Any guesses on how i can set it? The manufacturer of the alarm is no longer in business, but is Apollo Security.

mr b asked: My neighbors house was robbed and now we want to get a home security system from a company like ADT, GE Protect America, Brinks, or Guardian. Has anyone used any of these companies and have an opinion about them. Obviously we’d like to get the best system for the best price. Who has that? So far I am leaning towards GE Protect America. dana l asked: Are home security alarms necessary in apartment buildings. We own our condo and were considering installing a home security alarm. What do home security alarms do, what are they capable of ? Is it worth paying $ 30 a month for an alarm ? Is Brinks a good name in the alarm industry. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.

minosti asked: I bought a house about 2 years ago with a DSC home security system installed by the provious owner. I have never activated the service. When I first moved in, the system keypad would randomly beep 2x until someone pressed any keys on the pad. It stopped for a while and has started beeping randomly again, but more frequently. It seems to go off a few times throughout the day, not at any regular intervals, but annoying enough to want to rip it out of the wall (which may be my next step). Again, pressing some of the keys seems to satisfy it for a short time. There are no manuals or instructions for the system and nothing on the pad to provide any advice.

mgr 452 asked: I know the major alarm company would not monitor the home if you quit paying the bill or cancel service, but I think the actual sensors which are installed along with the in home hidden siren would still work. I’m asking this because the city in which I live does not send the police anymore to a home where the home security alarm has gone off. A rent a cop will be sent instead to the home, and then, if they see the house has been broken into, they call the real police. By that time your entire home could be cleaned out.

Lady Jaye asked: I have a new home that I would like to purchase a security system for; however, I was looking for some personal experience feedback from folks. What is the most reasonable place? What warning signs are there to look for? Is wireless better or worse? In the base package for a company, does it include sensors for all windows and doors or do they ‘trick’ you and it’s extra?

HLBellevino asked: We are going to be buying a house this year and are going to have a security system installed. Which is the best company or type of alarm? I have seen the coating for windows that makes them almost impossible to break through, how much does it cost and does it really work? Any suggestions on home security will be appreciated. We will be getting an English bulldog and have 2 cats so motion detectors inside are out.

ADT, Brinks, etc?
My parents are building their new house where it is very secluded with only 4 neighbors. The old farm house on the property is in very bad shape. It was broken into. I think my parents need sceurity once their new house in built. 1) Location and 2) nosy neighbors 3) if my parents take a long drive and are gone, neighbors can nose at their things
